10 Thing You Should Do When You Publish Your Blog Post To Get More Visitors
This should sound familiar to a lot of you out there. You have slaved away writing your latest blog post. The content is absolutely epic. You poured your heart into your writing and have come out at the end with a killer piece of content that will be a game changer for so many people when they read it. You hit the publish button and sit back and marvel at your masterpiece. You switch over to your analytics to watch the steady stream of people piling in to read your post and then it hits you, no one is visiting your site and no one is seeing your new blog post.

You have 2 options at this point. One, you can site there and wallow in self doubt and dejection (which is normally what happens to me for the first 5 minutes) or Two, you can get to the real hard work of promoting your blog post. I often recommend that you should spend at least twice as much time promoting you blog post as you spent writing it, at least! Reality is you should probably spend even more than that. The trouble is what should you do to promote your blog post.

Hopefully this is where this post will come in handy. While there are a mountain of different options for you, there are a number of very simple low hanging fruit items you can do to get yourself kick started in the marketing game. While most of these will seem obvious, it’s always good to have this checklist handy to make sure you are doing everything.

If this is the first time you are following this list, it may take you a little longer to get through as part of the trick to marketing is to have your sources/resources all researched and ready to go from previous marketing efforts. As you post more and more blog posts though, you will have built up a list of ready to go sources and be able to breeze through it quicker.

As an added bonus to this blog post though I have gone out and found 3 Facebook groups that you can use to find other blogs in your nice that you can use for item #9 on this list and also post your blog posts in to get more readers. Don’t forget to sign up for this freebie at the bottom of this blog post.

1) Post to Facebook page twice
Posting to your Facebook page and sharing your post with your friends should be one of the first things you do. A good portion of your Facebook fans however will not see your initial post. It doesn’t hurt to schedule a follow up post with some kind of ‘In case you missed it’ message for 3 days later to get some more exposure.

2) Post to twitter multiple times
Twitter is a lot more fast moving than Facebook. For that reason you need to post the link to your blog post multiple times. I recommend scheduling it to post at least once a day for the first 7 days after you have published your blog post.

3) Create a Instagram graphic and post to you Instagram feed
While you can probably get away with just posting your regular blog post image to Instagram, I recommend creating a custom Instagram image for the blog post. The dimensions on Instagram will most likely be different from your blog post image so making sure you have a good looking image for Instagram with the right dimensions will go a long way. You should also make sure you include your blog url in your Instagram image so that people can find your blog easily.

4) Create a Pinterest graphic and post to your Pinterest feed
Much like the need to create a custom Instagram image, you should also create a custom Pinterest image. As with Instagram, the Pinterest dimensions will most likely be different from your regular blog post image so create a custom one to take advantage of the larger image size.

5) Send out to your newsletter
If you have email subscribers, make sure you let them know about your new blog post so that they can come and read it. Send them a quick message to let them know what you wrote about and include a link to the post. If you don’t have email subscribers, get some! Use a service like AWeber or MailChimp to get subscribers.

6) Post in Facebook Groups
Facebook Groups are a rich source of traffic for blog posts. You should be hunting out groups in your niche and joining them. Make sure you take part in the conversations and make sure they are ok with your posting links to your blog. Don’t post to all of the groups at one time as soon as you publish your post as this will seem like spam. Instead spread out your posts over time and post to one group per day.

7) Answer Quora questions related to your blog post
Quora has a ton of people looking for answers about a very wide range of subjects. There is a very good chance that if you do a quick search related to the topic of your blog post you will find several questions you can answer. Don’t worry if they have already been answered, you can add your answer anyway. Make sure you don’t just link to your blog post. Answer the question with the information they need and then link to your blog post as the source for the answer.

8) Search for Yahoo Answers questions related to your blog post
Just like you did with Quora, search for questions on Yahoo Answers and answer them citing your blog post as the source for the answer.

9) Post comments on other related blog posts
Search for other blogs in your niche and add comments to their blogs posts. Post useful comments that add extra information or ask good questions but don’t just post your blog link. When you submit your comment, most of the time you will have to option to add your blog URL to your submission. This will then be linked to your name in the comment and people click through and read your blog from the comment links.

10) Add your latest blog post link to your signature in forums
Find some forums in your niche (you know, the old school style that were popular before social media). There are still a lot of them out there and they are still popular. Most of them will allow you to put a link in your signature once you hit a certain level of posts. This is typically very low, 10 or 15 is the norm. Add your blog post link into your signature on the forums and then start posting in the forums.
